I see you, AYD | SBVRSL | Piedmont, Oakland, CA | Completed June 2020
SBVRSL is a virtual event and digital marketing organization that has played a huge role in funding art initiatives within the city of Oakland. It is through this organization that I became apart of an initiative to create art during the Oakland protests in support of Black Lives Matter.
I was commissioned to create a piece with full artistic freedom in the Piedmont neighborhood of Oakland. It’s important to me to honor my ancestors and those who’ve paved the way for me and my generation to continue the fight. This piece was also made to remind this community of what breeds here and take a look at how we’re showing up, or not showing up, for one another. There’s joy, struggle and growth in our commitment to one another.
